This included strategic alliances with IBM to create Dolphin's PowerPC-based CPU, codenamed Gekko, and with Panasonic ( Matsushita) to create its DVD drive and its own Dolphin-based devices. On May 12, 1999, the console was first publicly announced at Nintendo's press conference with the codename Dolphin, as the successor to the Nintendo 64. The console's succession of codenames was N2000, Star Cube, and Nintendo Advance. Partnering with Nintendo in May 1998, ArtX began the complete design of the system logic and graphics processor ( codenamed Flipper) of Nintendo's sixth-generation video game console. Olimar needs to command the Pikmin as they defeat enemies, rebuild bridges, tear down walls, and carry items back to his ship. There are 3 types of Pikmin: red (immune to fire), yellow (immune to electricity), and blue (immune to water). The more Olimar gets under his command the more efficient they become. Nintendo's charming take on the insect world. He soon meets a friendly species who he decides to call "Pikmin" who under Olimar's command can help him retrieve his lost ship part and get back home. To make matters worse, he only has enough oxygen in his space suit to last for 30 days. Dolphin has lost most of its parts and cannot make the trip back home. Upon regaining consciousness, Olimar discovers that the planet's air is toxic to his kind, and that his ship the S.S. While on his way back from an intergalactic vacation, Olimar crash lands into an alien planet. Pikmin stars a tiny middle aged alien named Captain Olimar who works for the Hoctate Freight company on planet Hoctate. Pikmin is a unique cross between Real Time Strategy and the action adventure genre.
